AI automation in Loughborough
Loughborough researches automation for a living — the university runs a dedicated Intelligent Automation Centre. Our job is the unglamorous other half: getting that class of capability into the daily operations of the town’s engineering and manufacturing SMEs.

The local picture
Loughborough University’s Intelligent Automation Centre works on robotics, AI and digital manufacturing, and the university anchors the town’s technical identity — its focus areas span advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, and professional and business services. It also hosts the East Midlands Chamber’s Manufacturing and Trade Conference, and more than seventy employers turn up to its annual engineering placements fair.
That concentration of engineering talent sits beside a practical truth: the SMEs around campus mostly run on the same email-and-spreadsheet operations as everywhere else. World-class automation research up the hill; order books retyped by hand down in the town.
Closing that gap doesn’t take a research programme. It takes working software fitted to the processes a firm already has.
Engineering & manufacturing SMEs
Quotes, drawings, works orders and inspection records — a document trail begging for structured extraction and proper handover between systems.
Technical services & spin-outs
Young firms with novel products and thin back offices — the right early automation keeps headcount flat while the order book grows.
Business & professional services
Client onboarding, engagement letters and recurring reporting — repetitive knowledge work where AI drafting with human sign-off pays for itself quickly.

What we’d automate in Loughborough
Bespoke systems for unusual processes
When a Loughborough firm’s workflow doesn’t fit any off-the-shelf tool — a niche test procedure, a novel product configurator — we design and build the software outright, and hand over the source.
The paper trail, structured
Inspection sheets, supplier certificates and order confirmations parsed into clean data with validation and fallbacks — treated as an engineering problem, not a demo.
Systems that finally talk
Job tracking, CAD outputs, stock and accounts connected so information entered once is entered for good — and reporting becomes a by-product of the work itself.

The relevant work
We prove capability with systems we’ve actually built — described from their codebases, with no invented clients or results.
Real-time voice personas for insurance workflows
Proof we work at the hard edge of real-time AI — the same engineering standard Loughborough’s research community would recognise.

The practical bit
We’re 24 miles away in Derby, straight down the A6. Near enough for a same-week working session on site in Loughborough — without ever pretending to a local address we don’t have.
Every project starts the same way regardless of postcode: an email describing the workflow, a straight answer about whether automation fits, then a scoped survey before any build. How we work →
